Mission

The mission of the Church of God and Saints of Christ is to reveal God and to bring people to salvation, which is through His son, Jesus [Christ]. Saving souls is accomplished by teaching and preaching the unadulterated Word of God. We are commissioned by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20 to "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world..." It is our purpose, through the Word of God, to transform non-believers and to elevate them to be responsible, faithful, productive disciples for Christ.

Philosophy

The Church of God and Saints of Christ was founded in 1896 by William Saunders Crowdy. In an era just out of slavery, William S. Crowdy came preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ; love for God and love for your fellowman, regardless of race or social status. He could also be found teaching self-reliance and independence. The church holds firm to these practices today.

The Ten Commandments are our guide for everyday life and our teachings focus on belief of the Holy Scriptures which guides us in repentance, baptism, religion as a duty, the importance of communion, and the importance of not being selfish, envious or jealous of your brothers and sisters. We teach what ultimately needs to be done to gain eternal life.

As individuals, each of us should strive to be the best that we can be, recognizing that without belief and trust in God, this would not be possible (Matthew 6:33). We should always strive to be a shining light and an example to our fellowman. It has been our teaching to “be the best, wear the best, go into business for yourself, be the landlord not the renter, and pay your honest debts.”

The Church of God and Saints of Christ operates much like a family, in that we stress unity and love among the saints. When a brother or sister is in need either spiritually or carnally, we are to provide help and assistance for them. It has been taught by our founder that we should “often invite one another to breakfast, dinner or tea….that they may be refreshed by your hospitality.” Additionally, we are instructed to provide care for the ministry, care for widows and orphans, care for the sick, food for the needy, and various community outreach programs.
